Supporting thriving families through policy change

Initiatives Supported by Network Members

As a network, we are always paying attention to new legislation that has the potential to impact our families and children. Through our Google Group, we inform the network of new bills and policies that align with our policy platform centered on cultivating Strong Families, Quality Early Care & Learning, Health & Wellbeing, and Effective & Sustainable Systems. Check out some the bills we have most recently shared with network members and click “Read More” to visit sites that provide more details and opportunities to take action.

Funding for Child Care

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused uncertainty and stress for many families. Parents that once relied on schools and other forms of childcare are now facing impossible decisions as they navigate returning to work. The lack feasible and affordable options force parents to cut back on work hours or even losing jobs that were essential for their financial security. Stabilizing funding for child care throughout the COVID-19 crisis can provide continued financial support to these programs and ultimately better support parents and families.

Undocumented Worker Relief

The immigrant and undocumented community has been facing increased challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The loss of work, closure of small businesses and increased health threat has impacted millions across the state. Due to immigrant status, many of these families are unable to access state and federal aid programs, like unemployment, and are struggling to support their families. The Undocumented Worker Relief bill encourages state legislative members to waive the citizenship requirement to these programs so they may be more widely accessed by those who need it.

Paid Family Leave During COVID-19

Paid Family Leave is more important now than ever as COVID-19 threatens the health and safety of families across the globe. Parents should not have to chose between caring for themselves and their children if they fall ill or continue working to pay the bills. It is important that parents have the freedom to be healthy and not be penalized by their work as a result. Expanding paid family leave and sick leave during the global health crisis will enable parents to care for sick family and be there for their kids without putting their health at risk.
